Use the app's own language setting when it has one
Chinese apps change quickly. Language support can vary by region, account, app version, and even by section of the same app. Check the app's settings before adding another translation step.
Even when the main navigation is translated, merchant listings, product images, mini programs, reviews, or checkout details can still appear in Chinese.
For one screen, the iPhone screenshot tools may be enough
Take a screenshot and use the Translate control on recognized text. On Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhones, Visual Intelligence can also work with content already on your screen.

For several screens, use a screen translator
If you are moving through Taobao, Meituan, Dianping, RedNote, or another local app, repeating the screenshot workflow can become more work than the translation itself.
Onscreen Translate lets you assign Double Tap, Triple Tap, or the Action Button once, then trigger translation from the screen you are already viewing.
Where screen translation helps most
Product listings and options
Translate titles, option labels, size or color choices, seller notes, and text inside product graphics.
Restaurant and local-service apps
Read buttons, booking details, merchant descriptions, reviews, delivery updates, and service notices when parts of the app remain in Chinese.
Mini programs and embedded screens
A host app may be translated while the mini program or embedded merchant page is not. Screen translation is useful when the untranslated part is already visible but does not expose normal text selection.
Image-heavy posts
Translate text inside posters, menus, social graphics, and screenshots where there is no copy button.
Keep the layout when the interface matters
A list of translated text is hard to use when you need to know which label belongs to which button. Onscreen Translate is designed to keep the translated result in the screen's visual structure so the interface remains understandable.
Be careful with high-stakes information
Machine translation can miss names, addresses, slang, product terminology, and context. Check the original before relying on a translation for payment details, allergies, medical information, legal terms, or anything else where a mistake matters.
What is the easiest way to translate a Chinese app on iPhone?
Check the app's own language setting first. If the screen still contains Chinese, use iPhone's screenshot translation for occasional screens or a screen translator when you need to translate several screens in a row.
Can I translate Taobao, Meituan, or Dianping on iPhone?
Yes, when the text is visible clearly enough to be recognized. English support can vary by app, region, account, and screen, so some parts may still need screen translation.
Will every word translate correctly?
No. Small text, stylized fonts, image-heavy screens, slang, product names, and context can cause mistakes. Check important payment, allergy, medical, legal, and address information against the original.
A repeatable workflow for shopping and delivery screens
- Open one screen at a time and wait for product images and labels to load.
- Expand a product image if the important words are printed inside it. A full-size image gives recognition more detail than a thumbnail.
- Use the Back Tap shortcut or Action Button to translate the visible screen.
- Match each translated label to its position, then return to the original app to choose an option.
- Translate the next screen separately. Compare prices, quantities, delivery details, and selected options against the original before confirming.
This workflow does not add English support to the app or translate content below the visible area. Store names, abbreviations, and local terms can be ambiguous. If an app offers an official language setting, try that first.
